After numerous attempts to bridge the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, finally in 1914 the Canal was completed at the cost of $375M USD and 27,000 lives. Learn about the incredible story of the Panama Canal and the sacrifices made so that we can ship goods between continents economically. Learn how Panama and the United States worked together over almost a century to enable commerce for the Americas. Also explore Panama’s roles as close US ally in connecting North and South America, and one of the top tourist and expatriate destinations.

If you have a H.323 system, or a computer connected to the Internet with a large screen and USB speakerphone, you can participate in virtual field trips. Students from home and other remote classrooms can also login and participate.
Schools may use virtual field trips as a comprehension and listening exercise, as well as for culture, history, and geography. Sessions can be held in the absence of the language teacher or as an event when school is closed.

Miguel Hernán García González, historian and political expert, is a resident of Manizales, Colombia. He is a graduate of Political Science with a focus on International Relations and Government from the Universidad Autónoma de Manizales. His other studies include Petro Engineering at Universidad de América in Bogota and a brief task in Seattle, WA.
